What is a VHS filter?
A VHS filter makes a modern photo look like a frame captured from an old videotape. It layers a few distinct effects that, together, read as "90s home video."
The effects that make up the look
- Scanlines — faint horizontal lines from interlaced video.
- Chromatic aberration — red/blue channels shifted slightly apart, giving that color-bleed edge.
- Grain and noise — the soft static of analog tape.
- Lowered contrast and a warm cast — the faded, slightly washed color of aging tape.
How to apply a VHS filter
In TOF Fun Cam, open the camera, take or upload a photo, choose VHS from the Retro/analog category, then drag the intensity slider to taste. Download it, share it, or print it as a keepsake with Tof Creations.
